Post budget survival – and how great cuts can motivate and result in great profits.

Ok so our new Chancellor has given his first budget. That’s the fact. Is it too tough? Or not tough enough? Will it slow the recovery down or turn it into a double dip recession? No one knows.

One certainty in life is that we don’t know what will happen next. Most frequently, people are at their most anxious, when they are most desperate to know what will happen next. So that gives anyone a magnificent handle for their mental well being. The bliss of being focussed, on where you are at this moment in time. Being in the ‘here and now’ which is what you do know, (without judgement), is an art - and an excellent skill for trading.

Have you ever noticed when you are thinking about things other than the ‘here and now ‘, that you didn’t notice the birds singing, the rustle of the leaves in the breeze, the sun, the shape of the clouds, that little bee busying itself around the beautiful flowers? All of that is free – and will feed your soul and spirit. Governments! Humbug!

Perhaps I might be being a little trite .. I don’t think so. You see, there is so much in life of which we have no control, and yet can spend so much energy fretting over, and making not one jot of difference. However, we certainly, all, have control over our own mind, and what and how we think. No one can take that away from us. And that can certainly make a great difference in our own lives. So grab the bull by the horns and take control over your life. Make every moment matter.

That’s how I got into trading, and coaching. I came upon trading when my then employers – the NHS – in order to save their money, decided to cut mine. I did have some warning – which I tried to influence – but you can’t move mountains. So four + years ago I had my hours and salary cut by 25%. As a single parent, with no other source of income – that was a huge whack. But being rather an indomitable character, and always willing to try something another way, when I heard of a free seminar on ‘getting an extra income’ – I signed up. It made sense. I like patterns. Since my first degree, I had been aware of the trillions of dollars circulating the globe on a daily basis in the stock markets of the world, - never seeming to touch what they were actually related to. As someone of the ideological political left – I could see that if everyone on the planet had access to that resource, what a huge difference it could really make. So 20+years later, there was I, at my first ever introduction to the stock market and trading. I signed up to the next level, and then the next – courtesy of what we are all now paying off – our credit cards.

I did learn a lot, and I came away with the expectation that in a few months I would be able to give up the day job. I can now see from internet articles, a number of those disillusioned students challenging the claims of the company that I attended and others , as ‘scams’. However, I persevered – I could see it was possible. I could see that I could be very successful, but I also saw that I had to stop repeating the same mistakes. Now, having spent several thousand hours (they say it takes 10,000 hours to work your way to amongst the best) and studied a great deal – my steady ratio of 95%winnersV5% losers is now producing real profits.

During those first 4 years I had few people to call upon to discuss my style, call upon for advice etc. I sought out answers, studied, analysed, and improved greatly. Now I can pay myself – I am now impervious to the Chancellors budget. I have taken control of my life. I spreadbet, and trade. So with the current amendments to Capital gains tax, there is no change for me. Excellent.

Not only have I succeeded in taking charge of my own life, now I can help others to do just that for themselves. As an independent coach I can offer much more than the initial trading courses that I attended. Clients who choose to deveIop their trading skills, learn skills critical not only for trading discipline but also for their life in general. It is an enormous pleasure and thrilling to see people make such progress.
